Name Change
As some of you may have noticed, I changed the URL from mikeanduri to uricode. Mike hasn’t posted in a while so I figure I’ll just hijack this space and continue from here. Don’t worry, “Project Ditch” isn’t over!

The Factory Pattern, Or at Least My Interpretation
I want to start off by saying that I’ve never really looked at the actual design pattern before writing this piece. I’ve used a couple of factories in my days (unknowingly) but I’ve never really bothered looking into how they actually work, what they’re for or when to actually use one. Again, I wrote this before knowing the “official” factory pattern. This is just what I came up with, and I’m...

Play our Game Dev Project →
Forgot to put this up a while ago. We finally managed to get this game “presentable.” Took a while but we finally did it! Instructions: download the zip file and run the .exe. That’s it. If you want to get fancy you can put the folder to wherever you usually install games and then make a shortcut. This game does not install anything, it runs from the folder. So you can delete it whenever...

It's Been a While
As mentioned in some of my previous posts, Mike and I might stop updating due to school work. Well now we’re back! Well at least I am. Over the passed couple of months Mike, our friend Eric and myself have been working on a more “professional” game. Where we have documentation, diagrams and an actual playable prototype. The game itself was written in C++ using DirectX so...

Robustness or Flaw?
The way I designed the input parsing thing to work is pretty robust, but it allows for some strange combinations. For example, “pick up garbage” will work and “garbage pick up” will also work. “Pick garbage,” “Garbage pick,” are good too. It even works with “Pick up the god damn garbage you sadist.” Yeah that works too!

Brains Implemented
I got the input processor kinda implemented, it doens’t really work right now but the logic is good. Tomorrow level one will probably be done! What’s next? Getting the input to actually work, then level transitions. After that it’s the little optional things like music and animation. I don’t care about animation for the prototype but music would be interesting.

Synonyms for Objects
Been doing some book keeping lately, like commenting and making spacing look nice a legible. I’ve also been looking over some stuff we wrote earlier and finding some holes and other things that are just unescesarry. In our original plan we completely forgot to make a list of synonyms for every object we have on the screen. What I mean is, in the first level (which I hope you’ve seen...

Hiatus
Mike and I have been pretty busy with our finals so we haven’t been able to work on our game much. We should be starting up soon though, maybe even something this weekend!

Hello
Hello, I was just re-reading the posts on our tumblr page and realized that I never really introduced myself. My name is Mike, Uri and I met each other last year in one of our Comp Sci classes.  I’ve always loved video games and get addicted quite easily which is why I really liked the concept of programming a text based game for a smart phone. I thought it would be a good place to start...

Uri and I are currently working on our prototype, which is being made especially interesting by the way my body is trying to deal with the amount of alcohol I ingested last night. XD

Play our Prototype! →
Finally got this working. In the future we’ll try and figure out a way for the game to be embedded directly in this site but for now you’ll have to use this temporary one.

Finicky Deployment
I’m having some trouble getting any sort of web deployment going for our prototype. Hopefully something will happen soon though.
